The Park Avenue Fin

We landed in Salt Lake City around noon, gassed up our monster rental Nissan Armada and drove through the Utah desert down to Moab. We had just enough time to drive over to Arches for a look and this is what we first saw, Park Avenue.

Cafe Brauer 2006

I like this shot and thought I would put it in the photo blog today. Normally I would not put my work shots in my personal photo blog but this one is different. The glow of the light and my solitary perspective of a beautiful tradition, well that makes it a personal shot for me.

Hatteras to Ocracoke

The view from the ferry crossing from Hatteras to Ocracoke island.

Another view. It's interesting that the two unique areas that I've photographed this year are the ocean and the desert. Two different areas of beauty.

Outer Banks April 2007

Jockey's Ridge State Park, near Nags Head on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Where the Wright Brothers became first in flight, for man. A desert landscape joining the Atlantic Ocean beyond the strip of homes. A lowered perspective would bring the horizon line before the homes, presenting the barren land and nothing else, save for the hang gliders at rest.

Duke Gardens

Sarah Duke Gardens in Duke University, April 2007. Our host in Raleigh, NC brought us on a tour of Duke, a most beautiful university. The Camellias were in bloom.

Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides)

Magnolia Plantation, just north of Charleston on April 4 , 2007.

Gives me a taste for shrimp and grits. I should just figure out how to make it myself.

Cake Pull

The cake pull, a tradition from somewhere in the South. Shot at Carnavale, great food and drinks, during Kim and Mark's wedding in August. The strings have little charms on the ends, which are pulled out by the single women before the cake cutting. Traditionally at times there would be a thimble on one, which would mean that the recipient would be a spinster. No old maids at this wedding though, just all good looking and fun people.

Paris

Paris, Idaho. August 2007.
Southeast corner of Idaho, just east of the Wyoming border and north of Utah.
Settled by Mormons in the 1860's.
Are there any French in Paris, Idaho?

Where am I?

Yesterday, adjacent to the corner of 23rd and Wentworth. People don't really know where to go in Chinatown. Well, there is nowhere to go as it's not really a destination. Some people who live there never leave, working day after day, counting their money, and going back to work again.
I don't mind Chinatown. I miss hearing the clatter of mahjong.

Palos 11/8

Went riding at Palos today. Dry trails, mid 40's with no wind make for great riding.
The Gunnar rode well with the 27.5" wheels and had excellent traction. To get around a tight corner all I had to do was lean the bike over and that was it.

Saturday, 11/2/07 around 5:30pm
About twelve years ago I drove past this airplane that wass stuck into the ground in front of a cornfield. As I was going 60mph in the middle of a line of traffic it really was not safe to pull over for a better look. This past weekend I finally made it back for a better look.

Glow

I saw D. with this glowing light around her drinking a beer in a dark pub. She said that she wasn't a good drinker. I replied that I wasn't either. We split a dollar bill in half with the deal that whoever "makes it" first would give the other half to the other. I still have my half.
